BSc (Hons) Financial Management*

This degree provides clear insight into how today’s financial operations are created and controlled, and prepares you for a career managing them at the highest levels.

You can develop a sharp understanding of both core and specialist financial disciplines. The course also provides a broader understanding of the socio-economic, legal and professional environments within which finance operates.

Course content

You will study the foundations of financial management, investigating quantitative methods, macroeconomics and business law. You will then be able to select from specialisation modules including financial accounting, corporate finance and risk management. Finally, you can focus the skills and knowledge you have developed on individual project work.

This course is also available as a 2 year accelerated option, alongside the standard 3 year route.

This Higher National Diploma (HND) covers the essential elements of business operations through group projects and practical assignments – to more accurately reflect the real working environment.

Course content

The course covers the critical foundations of modern business, including strategy, business law and marketing. These are built on with management modules to help you develop vital leadership skills. You will also study business environments and how companies are organised, enabling you to put theory into context.

Take your development a step further through a work-placement option. This provides credits towards your diploma, and an even greater advantage in the competitive job market.

Career direction

Many graduates go on to work in retailing, marketing, distribution and the Civil Service, among many other sectors. With this HND, the choice really is yours. HNC Law

This 1 year Higher National Certificate (HNC) has been designed to give you a clear insight into the institutions, practices and procedures that form the English legal system.

Law influences practically all aspects of society. This course provides a broad overview of the English legal system, alongside a more focused look at some key areas of law. You will gain the ideal foundation for further study or training.

Course content

By covering topics such as public law and crime, alongside an introduction to the entire legal system, this course provides an essential grounding in law. It also develops essential reading, research and debating skills.

Get a direct route onto a law degree

This HNC is delivered through our partner institution, St Patrick’s. Successfully completing the course provides access onto the first year of the Law LLB also offered through St Patrick’s.

Progress to HND (final year)

The HNC Law also forms the first year of the 2 year Edexcel Higher National Diploma (HND) Law. This means it allows you to enrol onto the HND final year – if you would prefer a more comprehensive legal overview before starting your degree or career.

Career direction

Moving onto the LLB opens the door to a career as a Solicitor or Barrister. Future roles with an HNC can include Legal Executive or Probation Officer. The core practical skills you will acquire, however, are always in demand throughout the private and public sectors.

Year 2 pushes further into legal fields and disciplines – reflecting the changes and developments in the legal world. This includes land law, tort and conveyancing. You will also develop the advanced reading, research, presentation and communication skills required for further legal study and a career in law.

Career direction

Typical career paths include the undertaking of a Law LLB in order to become a Barrister or Solicitor. Other legal professions available with an HND Law may include Legal Executive or advisory roles.
